In this test, I thoroughly examined the Philips Avent Videophone SCD923/26 over an extended period. Below you'll learn how well the baby monitor with app works and what the device's weaknesses are.
Keeping Baby in Sight with the Philips Avent Connected Videophone
The Philips Avent SCD923/26 Videophone with camera and app is a high-quality baby monitor that offers parents a variety of functions to facilitate monitoring their baby. The device came to market in September 2021 and with its excellent camera resolution, night vision capabilities, sound and motion detection currently belongs to the best models in this segment. The Avent connected Videophone 923 is also, as the name suggests, one of the few videophones with app connectivity on the market that is simultaneously offered by an established manufacturer in this country. This makes it particularly sought after by parents.
In the Philips Avent Videophone Test I examined the technical properties of the baby monitor, setup and use, camera and sound quality as well as its functions and extras. Read on to find out if the Philips Avent SCD923/26 is the right baby monitor for your needs.
Essential Test Results of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor Summarized
The [url="https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0999B4JCR?tag=produck-21",name="Philips Avent SCD923/26",title=""] was quick to set up and put into operation in the test. Essential settings can be made directly on the parent unit. These include among others the sound activation, connection settings, software updates and temperature signals. The app also offers additional options, e.g. motion detection, taking snapshots and viewing temperature history. Particularly practical is that you can share access with multiple people and thus quickly grant partners, grandma or grandpa access to the videophone. A second camera can also be integrated via the app. Meanwhile Philips sells the [url="https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CQRD5VLD?tag=produck-21",name="cameras individually as well",title="Extension camera Philips Avent 643/26"]. Here it's worth looking at used goods portals.
Image Quality
The Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor offers a camera with very good Full-HD resolution. Thanks to infrared night light, the image is completely sufficient both day and night to keep the baby in sight. Using the ambient light sensor, the camera switches automatically. The small night light on the camera provides not too bright, but quite pleasant light. The monitor of the Philips Avent has good resolution, which however doesn't match that of modern smartphones. Via the app you can however quickly view the FHD view on the high-resolution display of the smartphone and thus exploit the full potential.
To get a good picture, the camera can be manually panned vertically as well as horizontally. Thanks to zoom function you can also take a deeper look into the action.
Audio Quality
The Philips Avent offers a speaker on both the parent unit and the camera. Neither can deliver full sound, but are completely sufficient for transmitting speech and playing lullabies. The Philips Avent offers several of these. Even nature sounds are available and own melodies can be recorded and played back.
The microphone enables clear transmission of sounds. The volume is also variable and sufficient. Somewhat disturbing however is that both on the parent unit and especially in the app a permanent background noise can be heard. If you set the volume lower or switch to pure push notifications for movement or sounds, this problem can however be circumvented.
The two-way communication function furthermore allows parents to communicate with their baby or calm it without being physically in the room. Experience shows that this can however quickly lead to the child using the microphone for constant parent calls, so I avoid the function.
Transmission Range
In terms of transmission range, the Philips Avent SCD923 shows both light and shadow. In the test I could establish a stable connection to the camera without problems up to two floors. This however requires high signal strength. From two floors there were repeated disconnections. In "audio-only" mode I had no connection problems even with two floors difference. Basically the quality is highly dependent on the nature of your house walls and ceilings.
The big advantage here is the WLAN integration with app, because this can be used unlimited as long as an internet connection exists. Whether from work or the garden behind the house – the app fills the connection gaps of the parent unit. Thanks to push notifications you don't have to keep the app running in the foreground, but can also put the smartphone away or even receive notifications via smartwatch. Anyone who has no problem falling back on the smartphone in case of connection problems is well served with the Philips Avent SCD923.
Both with voice messages and video recordings, a low latency of 1-2 seconds can be observed, which however was not perceived as disturbing in the test.
Battery Life
The parent unit is equipped with a battery that supplies the device with energy for up to 10 hours (according to test) in ECO mode. This is not an outstanding value, but since you mostly use the device at home and thus have power nearby, it's sufficient. ECO mode is considered particularly low-radiation and worked very reliably in the test.
The camera unit on the other hand has no battery. With a power bank you can however also make this independent of the socket and mobile.
Is the Purchase of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor Worth It?
Overall, the Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor with camera and app connectivity offers a broad range of functions and technical characteristics that make it one of the best and most versatile videophones on the market. Whether with video, audio only, on smartphone, at grandma and grandpa's or as sleep aid with lullabies – The Avent SCD923 covers a variety of use cases and is largely solid in them. Thanks to Philips' data protection promise, it was in sum one of the few videophones that came into question for me.

Design and Dimensions of the Avent SCD923/26
The Philips Avent SCD923/26 makes a simple yet modern impression. The color of the parent unit and camera is kept in subtle gray. The monitor appears almost borderless and therefore up-to-date. With the display turned on, approximately 1-1.5 cm of border remains around the display on the sides as well as top and bottom. In times of borderless smartphones, more would have been possible here. This border is sensibly used for LED indicators that make the device independent of the display and reflect reception and noise level.
On the back is the speaker and the fold-out antenna of the parent unit.
The device can stand upright with a stand. The battery is integrated directly into the stand and can also be removed if necessary. Battery replacement by the user is not intended, but quite feasible. However, you should have basic technical skills. Help can be found via "Battery Replacement Tutorials". Anyone who doesn't feel confident should not make changes to a baby monitor in particular.
Two small rubber stoppers on the bottom ensure that the device doesn't slip too much on smooth surfaces. Overall, I think the device is optically well done.
The camera is quite small and equally stable thanks to rubber stoppers. You can optionally mount it on the wall via two hangers in the stand. On Amazon you can also find mounts that enable more flexible use.
[asin="B09QSMMNT1",type="standard"]Dimensions
Both units are quite compact and thus neither too big nor too small.
- Parent unit (WxH) 15 cm x 8 cm (with antenna 14.5 cm) / 225g
- Baby unit (WxH) 7 x 11.2 cm (with antenna 16 cm) / 127g (Stiftung Warentest states 200g here, which is quite puzzling to me)
Setup and Use
Initial Setup
The Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor is very easy to put into operation. For quick commissioning, a quick start guide is included in the package. Via the display of the parent unit you are also guided through the initial setup and then supported in connecting to WLAN (2.4 GHz) and the camera. I had no problems here and found the setup of the Philips Avent SCD923 intuitive and self-explanatory. The quick guide and complete user manual can be found on [url="https://www.philips.de/c-p/SCD923_26/connected-videophone/support",name="Philips' homepage",title=""].
As soon as the camera is in operation, an LED above the lens lights up. The LED has the function of indicating connection status as well as connection problems. It is always active and cannot be switched off. I found the white LED light quite subtle and not disturbing in the dark.
Operation via Parent Unit
The parent unit is controlled via few buttons that are provided with appropriate symbols. Operation is quite simple and reduced to the essentials. The following menu items can be found here:
- Night light
- Zoom
- Temperature signal (temperature ranges)
- Connection (connection mode)
- Settings (language, firmware, licenses)
There are also separate buttons on the front for voice announcements, soothing sounds, brightness and volume. At the top you also find the on/off switch and a mode selection with which you can set Video, Audio and ECO mode (more on this later).
Should the connection between parent and baby unit be interrupted, this is displayed on the monitor and a signal tone sounds repeatedly (also called range control).
Connection Problems Philips Avent SCD923/26 Parent Unit with Baby Unit
Anyone who notices recurring connection problems to the parent unit should try to reconnect the units. The procedure for this is as follows:
- Press the night light button and soothing sounds button on the baby unit simultaneously for 3 seconds until the night light blinks.
- Press the mode button (top left) and menu button on the parent unit simultaneously for 10 seconds until a QR code is displayed on the screen.
- Bring the baby unit to a distance of about 20 cm from the parent unit so that the camera of the baby unit is aimed at the QR code. The baby unit plays a melody to indicate successful pairing. The parent unit shows video streaming again after 10-20 seconds
Both the night light and lullabies can be activated via the parent unit or via the camera, so you can do this directly at the crib. The timer function for these can however only be set via the parent unit or app.
Operation via App
The user interface of the app is clearly structured and self-explanatory. The various functions are easily accessible and the symbols and labels are well understandable. You can hardly go wrong here. The app is available free for both iOS from version 11 and Android from version 5. Integration into Apple Homekit is currently not available.
The app offers all functions of the parent unit and additional settings. For example, in the app you can activate motion detection in addition to sound detection. When the respective detections are activated, you receive push notifications as soon as one of the detections is triggered. The sensitivity of detection can be easily adjusted in the app. The push notifications were also reliable in the test forwarded to my [url="https://www.produck.de/quack/4553/amazfit-gtr-3-pro-vs-gtr-4-im-vergleich",name="Amazfit GTR 3 Pro Smartwatch",title=""], so I didn't have to keep the phone in sight all the time.
There is also background monitoring. This enables the app, even when not open, to trigger push messages for sound and motion detection.
The camera image can be rotated on the smartphone and adjusted in its resolution. In addition, the temperature in the baby unit's room is always displayed.
A nice gimmick is also the snapshot function, with which you can take pictures and videos of the baby and save them in the smartphone's gallery. The images are stored only locally on the device.
Integrating Multiple Cameras in the App
A particular advantage of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 is expandability with multiple cameras. Parents who have two small children can add two or more baby monitors in the app. This allows you to keep separate rooms or areas in view via the app and switch between cameras. For a long time Philips only offered the Avent SCD923/26 in a set with baby monitor and not the camera alone. Meanwhile however these are available under the designation [url="https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CQRD5VLD?tag=produck-21",name="Philips Avent Connected Baby Camera 643/26",title="Extension camera Philips Avent 643/26"] the extension camera can be bought individually. Alternatively it's worth looking at eBay classifieds or warehouse deals. Here you can find cheaper used models.
Multiple Users for One Camera
Another advantage of the app is the possibility to grant additional users access to the camera. This way couples or grandparents can be invited from within the app. After successful integration they can access the camera with all functions with their smartphone and thus take over monitoring. It's practical that you can activate a private mode on the monitor, through which all connections from the app to the camera are cut and access to the camera is thus denied. On the smartphone you are informed about the disconnection by the main unit.
The operation of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 proved versatile in the test. The possibility to integrate additional cameras via the app and give additional users access to the baby unit enables flexible use without a baby monitor. It's only a pity that you cannot buy an Avent camera separately.
Firmware Updates
Philips guarantees updates for the Philips Avent Videophone for at least 2 years after purchase. Software updates are started relatively abruptly on the device. This can also happen in the middle of the night or during monitoring. Unfortunately you are then separated from the baby for a few seconds to a few minutes, which is awkward and quite annoying. An update timer would have been sensible here. Fortunately updates don't occur too frequently.
Connectivity and Range
Connection Options
The Philips Avent SCD923/26 offers two ways to connect to the parent monitor. The first is the direct connection, which is established independently of WLAN between camera and parent unit via the DECT radio standard. WLAN is therefore not necessary to connect parent unit and camera.
In addition, the parent unit in "Direct + WLAN" mode can connect to the camera via DECT + router as additional bridge. This enables greater ranges, which can help you with poor radio signal in direct mode.
When operating with app, WLAN is always required for the camera. The smartphone can then access the data that the camera records directly via mobile network or WLAN. This eliminates the range limitation when monitoring the baby. So if the father wants to access the baby monitor from the office, this is potentially no problem with the Avent SCD923/26. A Bluetooth connection between smartphone and camera is however not supported.
Can I use the Philips Avent SCD923/26 in a hotel with WLAN?
Using the Philips Avent 923 with WLAN in hotels depends entirely on the WLAN permissions in the hotel. Often only individual ports are allowed, so the connection between parent and baby unit with additional WLAN is not possible. A login screen can also prevent access. The camera then cannot access the WLAN and accordingly cannot interact with the smartphone.
A remedy is your own hotspot, which you can provide with a smartphone for example and via which the camera then connects. This way you are independent of the hotel network. The prerequisite is of course that the smartphone provides a stable internet connection with sufficient bandwidth.
The Range of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 in the Test
Transmission range is one of the most important and at the same time most critical points when buying a baby monitor. Interruptions can quickly occur here, which take away the feeling of security when monitoring the baby. The Philips Avent 923 Baby Monitor has a transmission range of up to 400 meters outdoors and up to 50 meters indoors. This should theoretically be sufficient for most apartments and houses.
Now 400 meters on the data sheet is not the same as 400 meters in practice, because what matters is what barriers the radio signal has to overcome in between. To be able to assess the range more precisely, I conducted the following tests: In a 3-story house (ceiling height 3m) I placed the camera on the upper floor and tested the range between parent and baby unit by gradually moving away from the baby unit. The house in which I examined the range has massive concrete walls or ceilings with steel beams, with a width between 20 and 40cm. In the first test I set the radio connection to Direct, in the second to Direct + WLAN. The results follow:
Indoor Test
- Direct: With the direct connection I could receive the camera image without problems on the same floor and one floor down. There were no transmission problems so far. Only on the second floor did occasional connection drops occur. In pure audio mode however the signal was sufficient and I could maintain the connection to the camera even over two floors.
- Direct + WLAN: Adding WLAN gave me about 2-3 meters more range, but was not very noticeable. The effect of WLAN as a bridge was therefore very small in my test. Incidentally, I use a [url="https://www.produck.de/quack/4384/fritzbox-7590-vs-7590-ax—was-sind-die-unterschiede",name="FritzBox 7590 ax, AVM's current top DSL router",title=""] as router.
Outdoor Test
- Direct: Outdoors I got about 200 m before the connection broke. This however only worked when really nothing was in the way, i.e. I could still see the camera location from 200 meters away. As soon as I went around a corner, the range shortened enormously. Here I could measure a distance of about 70 meters.
- Direct + WLAN: Even in the outdoor test, the router as extension brought no real improvement.
The test therefore shows that the Philips Avent SCD923/26 can indeed bridge 1-2 floors, but it depends heavily on the nature of the walls and ceilings. Massive reinforced concrete can completely ruin the device and shorten the reception range to a few meters. Philips gives the following limitations for range.
| Dry Materials | Material Thickness | Reception Loss |
|---|---|---|
| Wood, plaster, cardboard, glass (without metal, wires or lead) | < 30 cm | 0 – 10 % |
| Brick, plywood | < 30 cm | 5 – 35 % |
| Reinforced concrete | < 30 cm | 30 – 100 % |
| Metal mesh or bars | < 1 cm | 90 – 100 % |
| Metal or aluminum plates | < 1 cm | 100 % |

Basically I found the alarm tone for connection drops somewhat annoying. You can neither turn it down nor switch it off separately. The alarm behavior is somewhat stressful in cozy gatherings or at night and offers too few setting options.
Camera and Display
Image Quality During the Day
The image quality of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor is very good during the day. With the 1080p FHD resolution of the camera, clear and sharp images are displayed on the monitor or parents' smartphone, so details are clearly recognizable.
Image Quality at Night
The infrared night vision enables very good image quality even in darkness. The camera has an ambient light sensor that is mounted above the lens. This automatically switches to night vision mode as soon as it gets dark and changes the image display to black and white. Thanks to the infrared light, the night recordings are still very detailed and sufficient to recognize all movements in the room.
During operation, the camera gets slightly warm. Philips assures on the [url="https://philips.de/c-f/XC000021124/warum-f%C3%BChlt-sich-das-philips-avent-babyphone-warm-an",name="homepage",title=""] that this is completely normal behavior and the device is absolutely fine.
Display and Image Quality
The parent unit offers a 4.3 inch color display (diagonal 10.9 cm) that has sufficient resolution to see the baby well. The images are however less sharp than on a modern smartphone. In the test with a Samsung Galaxy S22 the image was again significantly sharper. The resolution can also be switched in the app to HD (720p) or SD (576p), which benefits transmission due to the lower data volume and is particularly useful with slow internet.
The LCD display of the parent unit always shows the current mode (Video, Audio, Eco), temperature, signal strength and battery charge level. This information is automatically hidden after a short time. The time is however not displayed.
In addition to the display, symbols also light up that indicate an active connection exists between parent unit and camera or light up should this be interrupted. Below this, the ECO mode and the level of sounds are displayed if necessary, so essential information is given even in audio mode.
In Eco mode, the display is only activated when sounds are perceived in the room. This mode is basically equivalent to the VOX mode ("Voice Operated Exchange") of older models, where the device is only activated when sounds are detected. The sensitivity for this can be adjusted. If no sounds are perceived for 20 seconds, the display switches off again. Incidentally, the ECO mode does not react to pure movement. Only the app can display a push message when movement is detected on the smartphone.
What distinguishes VOX mode from ECO mode in baby monitors
Both modes are very similar. In both VOX and ECO mode, the main unit is only activated when sounds are detected at the baby unit, which reduces electromagnetic radiation and power consumption. The difference basically is that in VOX mode a permanent connection exists between parent and baby unit, while in ECO mode the camera unit is only pinged every 2 seconds, i.e. checked every 2 seconds whether everything is quiet. The connection is therefore only established as needed. This reduces electromagnetic radiation on both sides somewhat more in ECO mode and the battery is conserved somewhat more than is the case in VOX mode. In this respect, ECO mode is the superior mode. Important is of course also the distance the camera has to the baby. So place the device only as close as necessary to the baby. It should be noted however that the Avent SCD923/26 significantly falls below the recommended limits of the Federal Immission Control Act.
Zoom, Pan and Tilt Functions
The camera of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 offers a zoom function that enables an enlarged view of the baby in 3 stages. In addition, the camera can be manually panned and tilted to set the optimal viewing angle and keep the entire room in view. Some cameras already offer remote control for panning here. Since the camera's angle is however large, manual presetting of the tilt is completely sufficient for us. The pan function corresponds to about 140 degrees left and 140 degrees right, the tilt is about 26 degrees up and 26 degrees down.
Latency and Delay in Transmission
The transmission of images occurs almost in real time, so only a minimal delay (about 1-2s) is detectable between recording and display on the monitor or smartphone. The latency is generally not disturbing for normal use. It becomes noticeable especially when you transmit a voice message and then hear it somewhat delayed in the next room.
Audio Quality and Voice Recordings
Audio Quality of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 in the Test
The audio quality of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor proved to be quite acceptable in the test. The speakers are located on the back of both the parent unit and the baby unit. The microphone on both sides picks up sounds in good quality and reproduces the sound clearly and distinctly. Parents can thus hear their baby's sounds well. The soothing songs that can be played via the camera sound quite pleasant or in the case of nature sounds reasonably realistic. But you shouldn't expect a sound miracle. The nature sounds also repeat, so a certain monotony develops over time.
In the audio test of the Philips Avent Videophone, no notable disturbances or distortions occurred in the sound. The baby monitor offers stable audio transmission (as long as the connection is given) and minimizes background noise to ensure good sound quality. As with video, audio transmission also has a latency of about 1-2s. This is completely within reason from my perspective and has led to no disadvantages.
Even during the playback of lullabies, the device responded reliably to the child's sounds, so these don't limit monitoring.
Adjustable Volume
The volume of the Avent Videophone can be individually adjusted directly on the phone itself or in the app, so parents can make it louder or quieter as needed. This facilitates adaptation to different ambient noises and needs. You should be careful when getting too close to the camera with the videophone or app. Here feedback noises can quickly occur.
Somewhat disturbing was that as soon as I use the app with sound, permanent noise can be perceived. This caused me to always turn the sound off or at least very low when using it. The noise can also be heard at high volume on the parent unit, but gradually disappears at medium to low volume and thus doesn't pose a serious problem.
Battery Life in the Test
The battery life of the parent unit of the Philips Avent is according to the manufacturer up to 12 hours in ECO operation. In the test I achieved about 10 hours of operating time with the lithium-ion battery with 2600 mAh battery capacity, which corresponds to about three evenings. The camera unit can be operated either with the included power adapter or alternatively with your own power bank, which provides additional flexibility. No separate battery is built in here. In the test however my small 4400 mAh power bank was not sufficient. With a power bank like the [url="https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07S829LBX?tag=produck-21",name="20,000 mAh power bank from Anker",title=""] it was however no problem to operate the camera for several days.
The battery of the parent unit is fully recharged within 3h.
Package Contents
The package contents of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 are limited to the essentials. In the package you find:
- Parent monitor
- Baby unit
- 2 x Power adapter (2 m cable length each)
- Operating instructions in numerous languages
A mount with which you can attach the baby monitor directly to the baby bed would have been desirable. [asin="B09QSMMNT1",type="standard"]
In addition, as already mentioned above, I find the monitor somewhat unwieldy, i.e. I can just barely grip it. For my wife it's even less grippable. This means the device can easily slip out of your hand in everyday use and in the worst case damage the display. A strap or small finger ring on the back would have been sensible here. Examples:
[asin="B08TC24P7B",type="standard"] [asin="B07QVYLDRL",type="standard"]A bag to transport the device is also not included in the package contents. For over 250 euros you could certainly expect more here. Incidentally, the devices are manufactured in China.
In sum, everything for operation is included in the package contents. However, you look in vain for comfort functions.
Reviews and Test Results for the Avent SCD923/26
The Philips Avent SCD923/26 has already been tested in various tests together with other videophones. The good news is that it emerged as test winner in all tests known to me. The bad news is that in some tests, none of the devices performed really well, so all still have upward potential, which also confirms my impression of the Avent SCD923/26.The following tests of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 can be found:

What Customers Say – Amazon Reviews
On Amazon the device was rated 723 times at the current time (as of April 2023) and received 4.1 stars, which corresponds to a good test verdict. Users often praise the very good image, reliable alerting and chic design of the videophone. In addition, the unlimited range with the app is highlighted and named as an important criterion for purchase. Furthermore, Philips is one of the few manufacturers that is known at all in Germany and thus the trust aspect plays an important role for some readers.
It's striking that some users criticize the device's range and struggle with connection drops. As shown in the table above, especially stable reinforced concrete walls can severely limit range and connection stability. The problem is the high signal strength required by the video. The combination of DECT + WLAN can help here, but not always and in my experience not much either. "Audio-only" devices from Philips Avent therefore regularly perform better in terms of range. In case of emergency however the Avent SCD923/26 still has the app available, which thanks to internet puts all radio standards in the shade.
My Conclusion from Previous Test Results on Videophones
My conclusion from the previous test results is: Anyone looking for the perfect baby monitor with camera and app can search for a long time so far. I have not been able to find the jack-of-all-trades in this area yet. Anyone who knows better devices can gladly write this in the comments (preferably with justification)!
Stiftung Warentest
Stiftung Warentest examined the Philips Avent SCD923/26 as part of a baby monitor test with app in October 2022. I naturally read through the test and find some assessments very strict. Essentially the device scores satisfactory, with especially user-friendliness, warnings, operation and setting options, build quality and power consumption being rated positively. In terms of electromagnetic fields, all devices were far below the limits of the Federal Immission Control Act.
Poor however were battery life and transmission (including range, sound and image quality) as well as general protection of personal data.
Nevertheless the result was sufficient for test victory among the four tested comparison devices: Philips Avent SCD923/26 vs. Reer Ip BabyCam Move vs. Hubble Nursery Pal Cloud vs. Hubble Nursery Pal Premium.
The test itself is very objective, but lacks classification of results in everyday life. So the image quality is completely satisfactory when it comes to recognizing the child's movements, but doesn't deliver a color spectacle like the latest smartphones do. The speakers are absolutely okay for quiet sounds and voice messages and the battery life with about 3 days without charging is fine, after all the device is not used most of the day. The app is also always available as a gap filler, so the occasional dropout is no problem. Even the smartwatch can be integrated. In this respect the test criteria of Stiftung Warentest for the Avent SCD923 are justified, but should be seen in the context of the application. Especially since better alternatives are in short supply.
Data Protection
A generally important criterion for me when buying a baby monitor was data security. Transmission of private data to the internet and storage on unknown servers, possibly from Chinese providers, was not an option for me. Philips turned out to be the only provider that combined the combo of videophone, with app and trustworthiness (you never have a 100% guarantee of course).
The Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor ensures secure transmission and storage of all data by using the latest industry-standard encryption technology. The Avent SCD923/26 relies on the "Secure Connect System", which uses multiple, encrypted connections for data transmission between devices. The audio and video data are not stored on Philips servers or in a cloud, but only on users' mobile devices. The latter point alone is of course a risk, but the lesser evil among storage options.
Philips promises to take all necessary measures to prevent hacking attacks on the Avent SCD923/26 baby monitor. For this it's necessary to always use the latest app software and baby monitor firmware. Should your own connection device be lost (e.g. smartphone), it's advisable to reset the baby monitor and delete the app user account. This also disconnects all guest user connections, provided the affected user is the only administrator.
Overall, no system is 100% secure from outside attacks. With Philips' data protection promise however I can sleep well. Anyone with concerns should perhaps refrain from buying a videophone. Anyone who sees the risks in smart home as given anyway can perhaps also fall back on a cheaper Chinese provider, e.g. Boifun.
[asin="B09STSVW24",type="standard"]My Conclusion on the Test of the Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor
The Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor convinces in the test through quick setup and a variety of setting options that can be made both on the parent unit and via the app. Particularly practical is the possibility to share access with multiple people and integrate a second camera. The image quality is sufficient both day and night thanks to Full-HD resolution and infrared night light. The audio quality is completely fine for transmitting speech and lullabies. However, I could perceive permanent background noise in the test, which only disappears at medium to low volume. The transmission range is highly dependent on the nature of house walls and ceilings. Fortunately the Philips Avent SCD923 can be used unlimited thanks to app and WLAN. The battery life of the parent unit in ECO mode is up to 10 hours. That's not a top value, but okay
Overall, the Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor offers a broad range of functions and technical characteristics that make it one of the best and most versatile videophones on the market. Data protection measures from Philips are on one hand a plus point, but far from seamless on the other.
The purchase of the Philips Avent SCD923 is worthwhile especially for parents who want to cover a variety of use cases and are looking for a solid videophone. However, you should note that transmission range is highly dependent on the environment and that background noise can be disturbing. Anyone who has the opportunity to test the device in their own four walls should do so.
Price-Performance Ratio
Finally, the price-performance ratio should be mentioned. The Philips Avent SCD923 is one of the most expensive videophones on the market. It currently fluctuates between 250 and 300 euros. The price has risen continuously since its introduction in 2021. Initially you could still regularly find offers for around 220-250 euros. Although the baby monitor offers a lot, I consider this price excessive. The integrated functions are basically standard among current providers of videophones with app. Some functions, like panning the camera via app, can even be found with cheaper models. The hardware, including display, housing, battery, is also nothing special and the package contents are limited to the essentials. For this you have to accept some weaknesses, especially the mediocre range.
Nevertheless I see two strong purchase arguments: On one hand the Philips brand, which has built a good reputation in many areas of everyday life. If you look for comparable providers for videophones with similar reputation, you don't find much.
On the other hand the versatility. Here family members can easily be added to the app and take over care without having to buy their own hardware. This also applies to monitoring by mom and dad at the same time. Much is possible with the Avent Videophone. For these reasons my choice fell on the Philips Avent SCD923/26, which I have not regretted so far. In sum I can definitely recommend the device.
I bought the device on Amazon at a price of 256 euros (incl. VAT). Occasionally there are discount coupons for this that are only displayed on the Amazon page:

Can the Philips Avent SCD923/26 detect motion
Yes – The Philips Avent SCD923/26 Baby Monitor has a motion detection function that automatically sounds an alarm when movements are detected in the room. Can the Philips Avent SCD923/26 measure temperature?
Yes – An integrated temperature sensor measures room temperature and displays it in the app. This helps parents ensure an optimal room climate for their baby and act in time when the temperature is too high or too low. For the latter you can set individual temperature limits that trigger an alarm when exceeded or fallen below. In the app it's also possible to see the temperature history of the last 24 hours. However, the camera must be switched on for this.

Can the Philips Avent SCD923/26 play lullabies
Yes, the baby monitor plays lullabies and soothing sounds that can be controlled via both the parent unit and the app to calm the baby and support falling asleep. In addition to typical baby sleep melodies, you also find sounds like ocean waves, bird chirping, rain pattering, brook babbling or even a heartbeat, which is supposed to mimic the sound in the womb. Bizarrely, there's also vacuum cleaner noise as a sound. I find it sensible that you can additionally record two own sounds, e.g. the mother's lovely singing. ☺ Kudos to Philips for this nice feature. It's also practical that there's a timer for the songs analogous to the night light, so they fade out after the desired time.
