Roborock currently offers two main series, the S-series, led by the S8 MaxV, and the Q-series with the Qrevo Curv and Q8. In this article, I clarify the key differences between the series and discuss the differences between individual models.
Mopping Function: Round or Square
The biggest differences are in terms of the mopping function.
Qrevo Series
- The Qrevo models are equipped with rotating mops that, as we were able to show in [url="https://www.siio.de/ein-halbes-jahr-mit-dem-roborock-q-revo-meine-erfahrungen/",name="tests",title=""], provide more thorough cleaning on hard floors than models with static (Q-series) or vibrating mop cloths (S-series) do.
- The mops rotate at high speed and have longer fibers with which they can remove simple stains well. They can be lifted on carpets.
- Some of the models also have an extendable mop arm that can mop right to the edge (included with Qrevo Curv, Edge, Slim, Master and MaxV, Pro and Plus).
Current models: Qrevo Curv, Qrevo Edge, Qrevo Slim, Qrevo Master, QrevoMaxV, Qrevo Pro, Qrevo S, Qrevo, Q8 Max+, Q5 Pro+, Q5 Max+, Q5 Pro+
A configurable comparison table of the differences for all models can be found on the [url="https://de.roborock.com/pages/robot-vacuum-cleaner-compare",name="Roborock website",title=""). To simplify your decision, I have briefly summarized the main differences below.

S-Series
- The S-models, like the Roborock S8 MaxV, use Sonic Mopping technology, where the mop plate vibrates to clean the floor.
- The S8-series models can also automatically lift the mop plate when carpets are detected (VibraRise technology).
- The latest S8 MaxV has a small extendable mop arm and an extendable brush, allowing it to reach corners, similar to the Qrevo models mentioned above.
Current models: S8 MaxV, S8 Pro, S8
Q-Series
- Additionally, there is the simple Q-series, which essentially continues the old basic models, without much frills.
- The models have a suction function, a passive mopping function with mop cloth and that's basically it.
- However, the new Q8 and Q5 models have a fairly long runtime and a large water tank on board.
- They are also significantly cheaper due to the significantly stripped-down feature set.
- The Q-models are available as "Plus" versions with a station for dust emptying, but these do not allow water exchange and cleaning of the mop cloth.
Current models: Q8 Max+, Q5 Pro+, Q5 Max+, Q5 Pro+
Suction Station
The suction stations of the Qrevo and S-series basically have the same capabilities, but are designed differently due to the different cleaning devices, with the Qrevo series providing the more practical implementation.
Qrevo Series
-
The Qrevo series models are equipped with a multifunctional cleaning station that:
- automatically empties the dust container,
- washes the mops (partly with hot water),
- dries the mops,
- and refills the water tank.
S-Series
-
The S-series also offers models with suction stations, whose functions vary depending on the model:
- Some stations only empty the dust container (marked as Plus variant).
- Others offer additional functions such as emptying and refilling the water tank as well as washing out the mop cloth.
- The S8 MaxV also has an automatic dispenser for cleaning agent, while with other models it must be added manually to the water tank.
-
Compared to the Qrevo series, the cleaning system of the Ultra station is more complex:
- The mop cloth is cleaned with a water-brush system, but this has proven to be immature, as dirt remains in the system despite rinsing. Result: After a few days it starts to smell musty.
- The Qrevo station uses a rotating "washboard" system that requires no additional mechanics and can be easily cleaned manually under hot water.
- The station of the latest Qrevo models now also automatically rinses this area.
Suction Power
Both series have models with very high suction power, but the Qrevo Curv and Edge stand out.
Qrevo Series
-
The suction power varies depending on the model:
- "Basic" Qrevo: 5,500 Pa
- MaxV: 7,000 Pa
- Master: 10,000 Pa
- Curv and Edge: 18,000 Pa
- All models have in common that they provide excellent suction performance on hard floors as well as very good performance on carpets.
- The stronger models have slight advantages due to the higher suction power.
- The Qrevo Curv, Slim and Master also have an extendable side brush that now effectively sweeps out the dirt that used to remain in corners.
- The top models have a double brush under the hood that stirs up more dirt than the simple solid rubber brush.
S-Series
- The S-series models also offer high suction power, but do not reach the level of the latest Qrevo series models.
- The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, the most powerful model in the series, achieves a suction power of 10,000 Pa and ensures very thorough cleaning.
- The S-series also has a double brush installed in the top model.
Q-Series
- The Q-series models have lower suction power compared to the top models mentioned above, but still achieve very good cleaning performance.
- The reason for this is that the features of the top models ultimately represent optimizations that only collect a few percent more dust and do not produce significant differences.
Obstacle Recognition
In terms of obstacle recognition, the Qrevo and S-series offer the same technologies, which vary depending on the model.
-
Depending on the model, different technologies for object recognition are used, e.g. Reactive Tech, which is based on structured light and reliably recognizes larger obstacles. An enhancement is provided by React AI (2.0), which recognizes obstacles with the help of cross lasers and navigates around them more reliably even without a camera. Models with the designation MaxV, on the other hand, focus on the most accurate obstacle recognition possible and additionally use cameras that can also recognize, classify (e.g. cables, shoes, dog poop) and display smaller objects in the app for removal and later re-cleaning. This creates the currently most accurate obstacle recognition.
Pricing
The Qrevo series offers better value for money compared to the S-series.
- The Qrevo models cover a wide range of customer needs, from affordable models with fewer high-end functions to fully equipped "perfect" cleaning robots.
-
Compared to the S-series, the Qrevo series models are relatively affordable. Reasons for this are:
- The somewhat lower material quality (e.g. thinner plastic).
- The more simply designed cleaning station.
My Conclusion on the Differences
The choice between the Roborock Qrevo series and the S-series is therefore not difficult from my perspective: In the robot vacuum scene, the rotating mop has established itself among the top models. If you value an advanced, thorough mopping function, the Qrevo series is therefore the right choice for you. From my perspective, the S-series is a discontinued series in which I would not invest so much money. The simple Q-series is a good choice for anyone who wants to achieve good suction performance with little money and for whom mopping plays a subordinate role.
Which Qrevo Should I Choose?
Within the Qrevo series, the variants with side brush and swivel mop are recommended, so that all areas are actually thoroughly cleaned, i.e. [url="https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0D9446R32?tag=produck-21",name="Curv",title=""], Edge, [url="https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0DBL9C6JY?tag=produck-21",name="Slim",title=""] or [url="https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CYZK23T3?tag=produck-21",name="Master",title=""].
What is the best current robot vacuum in the Qrevo series
The Qrevo Curv and Edge basically offer all innovative functions from Roborock and surpass the sister models in some areas, e.g. in terms of suction power and runtime. As such, these two are the best choice if you have the necessary budget. With hardly any compromises, the Qrevo Slim is also a good choice, especially if you want to remove dust under flat furniture as well.
[asin="B0D9446R32",type="standard"] [asin="B0DPHTY1R2",type="standard"]Which S8 Should I Choose?
The S8 MaxV Ultra basically offers all the latest features, plus good obstacle recognition with dual camera, edge cleaning through side brush and mop, intelligent dirt detection, higher suction power, integrated voice assistant and consumes less power compared to the older S8 Pro Ultra. If you choose a model from the S-series, this is absolutely the best choice in terms of performance.
