We tested the Tronsmart Bang Max Bluetooth speaker in various disciplines and show you what this handy soundbox has to offer.
The new Tronsmart Bang Max Bluetooth speaker has been available in stores for a few days and, as the currently largest model, occupies a new segment in the manufacturer's range. At first glance, it bears a strong resemblance to JBL's Boombox 3 and poses serious competition to the Tribit Stormbox. But can the soundbox keep up with their performance despite the significantly lower price? We get to the bottom of this question in our Tronsmart Bang Max test and show who the device is a good choice for.

Design and construction
It seems clear that the [url="https://de.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-Bang-Max-Portable-Party-Speaker-521180.html",name="Tronsmart Bang Max soundbox",title=""] is intended to be an affordable replica of the JBL Boombox 3 (or Boombox 2), the current and former market leader in this size class. The basic shape and color scheme are almost identical. The Tronsmart Bang Max relies on a simple black design, the speakers are wrapped in plastic and mesh fabric. The handle is made of sturdy plastic and equipped with rubber strips for a better grip when carrying. The base of the box is made of soft rubber, so the box can be placed down gently.

In [url="https://www.produck.de/quack/4586/jbl-boombox-2-vs-boombox-3-wifi—was-sind-die-unterschiede",name="comparison to the JBL Boombox 3",title=""], the Bang Max offers some more control elements on the front. The LED display that surrounds the outer membranes also distinguishes it from the American counterpart. In this respect, Tronsmart remains true to its colorfully illuminated series, which at JBL is only reserved for the party boxes.
Overall, the box shows good build quality and makes a high-quality impression.
As mentioned, the new box is the largest in the existing range, but still appears handy. At 47 cm, it is somewhat smaller than an average newborn. At a measured 5926 grams, it doesn't weigh little, but is easy to carry over short to medium distances. I missed a shoulder strap that would improve mobility even more.

Robustness and outdoor capability
The Tronsmart Bang Max soundbox is water-protected according to IPX-6 protection class. All connections are hidden behind a thick rubber cap that prevents water from entering. This means that spray water and a temporary water surge (not to mention rain) cannot harm the box. It is therefore a suitable companion at the festival site or on the beach. However, you should not submerge the device. Official dust protection is not provided. However, the box should also withstand quite a bit here through the water protection.
The housing makes a robust impression: nothing that rattles, appears easily breakable or is not firmly screwed together. From my point of view, the Tronsmart Bang Max thus has high suitability for outdoor use.

Sound of the Tronsmart Bang Max in test
Sound makes the music, no matter how cheap the box may be! That's why we tried out different music genres in the test of the Tronsmart Bang Max. This reveals strengths and weaknesses of the box.
Under the hood, Tronsmart has installed a 3-way system. This includes two 10 W tweeters, two mid-range drivers with 20 W, two woofers with 30 W and two passive bass membranes that enhance the bass. Part of it should still go to the lighting. Overall, the box thus achieves solid 130 watts output power according to the manufacturer.

Watt specifications aside, in the sound test we came to the following result:
I was surprised by the strong bass that the box produces, especially from medium to high volume in relation to its size. It sounds quite deep and powerful. In the lower volume range, the bass hardly emerges and could be somewhat stronger. One can criticize here that it is not as precise and punchy as with higher-priced models from JBL, Teufel and Co. Nevertheless, the bass is the great strength of the Tronsmart Bang Max.

In music comparison, the highs and mids show somewhat shrill and not as full as one knows from a JBL Boombox 3. However, the sound is by no means bad because of this, but good average. From house music to electro, the Bang Max made a good impression on me overall. I see the soundbox less in the area of rock, metal or pop music. Here the mids and highs should be somewhat more balanced for my taste. It ultimately depends on how important sound quality is to you. With few compromises, you get a potent Bluetooth speaker at a fair price.
The Tronsmart Bang Max can also be turned up loud. In the test, it reaches about 110 dB at a distance of 1 meter. That's easily enough to provide good sound for a party crowd within a radius of 10 meters outdoors and indoors and get them in the mood to dance. Anyone who needs more pressure should look around in the area of [url="https://www.produck.de/quack/4629/soundboks-go-vs-teufel-rockster-air-im-vergleich—welche-lohnt-sich-mehr",name="Teufel Rockster Air or Soundboks Go",title=""].
The Tronsmart Bang Max can be connected to two devices simultaneously in parallel. The box is equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 and uses the audio codec SBC (Low Complexity Subband Codec). This is basically the basic variant in terms of Bluetooth data transmission, resulting in average audio quality. The distance between sender and receiver also plays a role here. In the test within our apartment, there were first hiccups in music playback from about 10 meters distance (with two walls in between) (connected to a Samsung Galaxy S22). I would have hoped for a bit more here. Outdoors, 18 meters is no problem.
Sound adjustment options
The small deficits in the over-emphasized mids and highs can be somewhat compensated with an equalizer. With the help of the Tronsmart app, various predefined sound profiles can be selected, as well as creating your own profile. Profiles like "Classic", "Deep Bass" or "Rock" are available for selection. With the individual equalizer, I reduced the mids a bit for smooth club music and found the resulting sound quite pleasant and quite chilled.

Operation via buttons and app
The control panel of the Tronsmart Bang Max on the housing already offers many control options, which offer numerous possibilities through simple or long button presses. The following functions can be found here.
- Power on/off
- Change LED light mode
- Activate/deactivate SoundPulse equalizer mode
- Play/Pause
- Song change
- Switch connections (Bluetooth, TF-Card, USB, Aux-In)
- Stereo pairing
- Broadcast mode
- Establish/reset Bluetooth connection
- Music volume control
- Mic/guitar volume control
- Echo when using microphone

Colorful through a lively light show
The LEDs of the Bang Max create "fancy" light effects especially in the dark, which contribute positively to the party mood or just look beautiful. With a simple click on the power button or in the app, various light profiles can be activated, which then light up in sync with the music. If that's too much or if you want to save battery, you can also turn off the light.

No smartphone, no Tronsmart!
As befits a proper device from China, there is of course an app. Anyone who now expects an overloaded firework of functions will be disappointed here. The app is simple and reduced to the essentials. The sound settings mentioned above are manageable. The same applies to the light settings. On the main screen, you only see simple music control and the battery status of the device. Otherwise, firmware updates can be initiated (right at the beginning, one was directly available for download), microphone and guitar settings can be made, stereo pairing or broadcasting can be controlled, or connections can be switched. What I found good in the test was that a timer is also on board, so you can use the box as a dignified support for falling asleep. The manual can also be accessed via the app. The translations into German are just a bit bumpy – treble becomes tripling, for example. In places, simply too much is translated. It is also cumbersome that no automatic pairing to already known devices takes place in the app. You have to reconnect every time you call it up, even if it's quick. You should also be careful when resetting the Bluetooth connection settings on the device. After that, individual settings, such as your own sound profile, are also reset.

By and large, the app offers only a few more functions than can be controlled via the buttons anyway. Nevertheless, it is indispensable for updates and sound fine-tuning and from my point of view sufficiently and purposefully designed for this.
Connections and connectivity
The Tronsmart Bang Max offers many connection options for its class. These are:
- AUX-IN
- USB-A
- TF card (Micro-SD)
- DC power connection
- Mic input (6.3 mm jack, with volume control)
- Guitar/Mic input (6.3 mm jack, with volume control)

Additionally, there is a reset hole where you can reset all settings with a needle.
Maximum sound with up to 100 devices
Anyone planning a larger party has some expansion options with the Tronsmart Bang Max.
In stereo mode, another box can be connected to create a stereo pair. So far, so familiar.
In broadcast mode, up to 100 Tronsmart Bang Max can be paired and thus start the fattest party ever 😆. So if the circle of friends agrees and everyone has a Bang Max ready, you are basically unstoppable 💪 (provided you can agree on music). One speaker works as a host, with which additional boxes can then connect.
Incidentally, the box does not offer a telephone function. However, Tronsmart can be used as a power bank with the USB-A connection and thus charge the smartphone.
Battery
With the large 18,000 mAh battery, the box plays music for up to 24 hours at medium volume and with lighting deactivated. In the test, I could record a 15% loss on the display after two days of 2 hours of use each. Extrapolated, that would be around 27 hours of operating time. Here the volume was sometimes somewhat lower than 50%. The specification of 24h is therefore quite realistic. The bottom line is that the battery provides enough power to provide pleasant background music for a weekend. With increasing volume and switching on the lighting, the playing time naturally decreases significantly. The current battery status is displayed via an LED strip.
Anyone planning a karaoke evening can sing cheerfully into the microphone with the Tronsmart Bang Max for at least 10 hours (at 60% volume) before the battery calls it a day. However, I didn't test it personally out of respect for the neighbors.
Charging time
The Bang Max is charged with the included DC power supply (15V / 2A / 30W) in around five hours. Mains operation is possible at any time during playback and can, for example, with the help of a power station, extend the runtime to many days.
Package contents
The package contents are clear and unfortunately do not include the microphone, as shown below. But that was not to be expected, as most manufacturers often offer this extra separately.

In total, you will find in the package contents:
- Power supply
- Operating instructions
- 3.5 mm AUX cable

Test result – How well does the Tronsmart Bang Max perform in the test?
The Tronsmart Bang Max Bluetooth box convinced us in the test in many ways. Its bass-heavy 3-way system delivers a powerful sound experience that still brings good sound even at high volume. The high-quality workmanship is complemented by a variety of practical functions that can be controlled directly via the buttons on the device. With its handy size and water protection function, the box is perfectly suited for outdoor use. In addition, it offers the possibility to be paired with up to 100 additional Bang Max devices – ideal for larger events and with matching light show. Music enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of connections that even allow the integration of a guitar or microphone, which is included in the package. A functional app and long battery life provide additional comfort. The power bank function and the particularly low purchase price put the icing on the cake of the positive overall impression.
However, there are also some points of criticism: The mids and highs sound somewhat thin and not as full as one knows from a [url="https://www.produck.de/quack/4586/jbl-boombox-2-vs-boombox-3-wifi—was-sind-die-unterschiede",name="JBL Boombox 3",title=""]. The audio codec used is only standard and could leave something to be desired for audiophile users. Accordingly, the bass also appears somewhat blurred. The Bluetooth range in indoor spaces also leaves something to be desired, so the connected device should stay within a radius of <10 meters. You also have to expect a fairly long charging time. However, the long runtime and possible mains operation compensate for this shortcoming.
Despite the minor weaknesses, the Tronsmart Bang Max is undoubtedly a good choice for anyone looking for a powerful and versatile Bluetooth box with a good price-performance ratio.
