I tested the Hydrofast 300 in everyday use – an absolute asset at 40 degrees outside temperature. This versatile device offers quite a lot: purification, hot water, cooling, and sparkling water. You can find out how well it works in the following review.

We all know the situation: first, heavy beverage crates have to be carried home, and when you get thirsty, there is still no chilled water available. And yes, warm sparkling water just doesn’t taste good… At the same time, the kettle is running in the kitchen because a cup of tea is about to be prepared. The Hydrofast C300 solves this problem and combines these tasks in one device. It combines a reverse osmosis water filter, sparkling water maker, and a dispenser for hot and cold water – a real enhancement in everyday life during the current hot summer.

The Hydrofast C300 combines several water treatment functions.

At first glance, the feature set reads like the ambitious promise of yet another large kitchen appliance. In practical use, however, the C300 proved to be much more than a mere gimmick for me. Its advantages come into their own especially in households where filtered still water, carbonation, and smaller amounts of hot water are needed every day.

Who is this device suitable for? In my opinion, the Hydrofast C300 is especially interesting for households that value conveniently available, filtered water but do not have a direct water connection at the desired location or are specifically looking for a freely placeable countertop solution.

Scope of delivery and build quality when unpacking

The individual components are reliably protected against transport damage in the packaging.

The Hydrofast C300 is delivered in a comparatively bulky box. Given its dimensions and the integrated technology, however, that is hardly surprising. What stood out positively to me right away was that the device and accessories are neatly housed in precisely fitting protective elements. The packaging may not be presented in an especially premium way, but it fulfills its purpose very well.

Alongside the actual water treatment unit, the package includes a drip tray, the already installed filter, a German-language user manual, and a PET bottle with a 400 ml capacity for making sparkling water. A required CO₂ cylinder, on the other hand, is not included in the scope of delivery. For immediate use of the sparkling water function, this therefore has to be purchased separately.

Only a few simple steps are required for the basic setup.

Preparing the device is pleasingly straightforward. First, the drip tray is attached to the front. After that, only adhesive strips and transport locks need to be removed. Extensive modifications or lengthy assembly are not necessary. I like that, because it means the C300 can be set up almost immediately after unpacking.

Flexible placement thanks to the integrated water tank

One of the Hydrofast C300’s biggest advantages for me is that it requires neither a fresh water connection nor a wastewater connection. Instead, the device has a removable 5-liter raw water tank that is filled directly at the faucet. As soon as the tank is inserted, the system moves the tap water into the internal circuits and starts the intended flushing program.

BILDBESCHREIBUNG
Thanks to the 5-liter tank, the device can be operated without a fixed water connection.

At this point, it is worth taking a closer look at the manual. For initial startup, the cleaning program must be run a total of three times in full. I initially overlooked this note and tried a glass directly after the first run. There was still a slightly sour taste noticeable. After all the prescribed flushing cycles, this disappeared completely. The water then tasted neutral, clear, and pleasantly fresh.

My key tip for the start: consistently carry out all three recommended flushing cycles. Only after that can the device’s actual water quality be meaningfully assessed.

How well does the carbonation function work?

For many prospective buyers, the carbonation function is likely to be one of the decisive features. The Hydrofast C300 not only treats the water and brings it to temperature, but can also directly add carbonation to it. A CO₂ cylinder with a screw connection is required for this. During the initial installation, a black transport lock on the connection briefly caused some confusion. Once it was removed, however, the cylinder could be inserted without any difficulty.

After removing the safety lock, the CO₂ cylinder can be connected easily.

The included bottle is attached to the side of the device and locked in place with a short twisting motion. The carbonation process is then started at the push of a button. In practice, this works reliably and definitely has a certain entertainment value. Children in particular are likely to enjoy using it. As a positive side effect, this may help encourage drinking water more often and sugary beverages less frequently.

The included sparkling water bottle works reliably, but offers little volume at 400 ml.

I also tried an flavored CO₂ cylinder. The system fundamentally works without problems with that as well. However, restraint is required when dosing, since the flavor quickly becomes much more intense than with conventional carbonation. I actually found the subtle apple note quite pleasant. At the same time, this test highlighted one disadvantage of the included bottle: with its 400 ml capacity, it is relatively small for several people or a larger family household.

Dimensions and suitable installation location

At a size of 27.5 × 44.5 × 46 cm, the Hydrofast C300 should not be planned as a small device for a narrow niche. It takes up a noticeable amount of space on the kitchen countertop. In addition, the ventilation openings on the sides and rear require sufficient distance from walls and other objects.

During the test, the device initially stood on our kitchen counter, where the required space was clearly noticeable. However, the independent water supply creates additional possibilities. As long as a power outlet is within reach and enough air can circulate, the C300 can also be placed closer to the dining table or in an adjoining room, for example.

During the flushing program, the dispensed water can be collected in a larger container.

Clear display and simple controls

In my view, the control panel is one of the Hydrofast C300’s most convincing elements. The display is bright, clearly structured, and easy to read even in stronger daylight. The integrated sensor is also practical: when a glass is placed under the outlet, the display switches on automatically. On the spec sheet, that may sound unspectacular, but in daily use it saves extra steps.

The well-structured display makes daily use of the water treatment unit easier.

It is often precisely such seemingly small details that determine whether a product merely fulfills its function or is genuinely convenient to use. The C300 relies on largely self-explanatory controls and does without unnecessarily complicated menu levels. As a result, cold and hot water are available with just a few inputs.

Light in the dispensing area

Another useful convenience feature is the lighting around the water outlet. It is bright enough to correctly position a container even in the dark, without having to illuminate the entire kitchen. At first glance, this feature may seem dispensable. After a short time, however, it becomes one of those functions you no longer want to do without in everyday life.

LED-Beleuchtung am Wasserauslass des Hydrofast C300
The light makes it easier to position the glass, especially in the evening and at night.

The distance between the drip tray and the outlet is also sensibly chosen. In addition to standard drinking glasses, taller containers and glass carafes also fit there. This means water dispensing is not limited to small vessels.

Cold and hot water in practical testing

The Hydrofast C300 dispenses chilled water at a temperature of 7 °C. That is pleasantly cold, especially in summer weather. At the same time, I see the biggest functional weakness here: no additional level can be selected between 7 °C and unchilled water at room temperature. In my view, an extra setting in the range of around 10 to 14 °C would be a useful addition.

When it comes to hot water preparation, the C300 offers significantly more choice. The desired temperature can be set starting from 40 °C in several steps up to a nominal 100 °C. This is helpful, for example, for different types of tea, instant drinks, or preparing baby food. Directly at the outlet, I measured values of around 96 to 97 °C. A slight deviation from the set maximum value is technically understandable and hardly affects use.

Entnehmbarer 5-Liter-Rohwassertank des Hydrofast C300
The raw water tank holds up to 5 liters of tap water.

However, the intended use should be viewed realistically. For individual cups of tea or comparable small quantities, the device is extremely convenient. If several liters of boiling water are needed for pasta or other cooking processes, a classic kettle or the stove remains the more suitable solution.

Cooling noise level

The integrated cooling function can be switched on or off as needed. When cooling is activated, a snowflake symbol appears on the control panel. When switched on, the device first runs a small amount of water through its lines. This behavior seems a little surprising at first, but it may serve the flushing and hygiene of the internal system.

What is clearly noticeable, however, is the operation of the cooling compressor. It switches on at regular intervals and is easy to hear, especially in a quiet environment. In a kitchen with a door, I still found the noise level acceptable. In an open-plan living and kitchen area, however, the operating noise may be more disturbing for sensitive people.

The energy consumption of the cooling system should also be taken into account. During cycled operation, it requires about 60 watts. For permanently chilled water, this seems acceptable to me, especially on warm days. Nevertheless, it should be considered in the individual cost assessment.

Experience after 14 days

Whether a new household appliance is permanently helpful usually only becomes clear after several days. After two weeks, my assessment of the Hydrofast C300 is mostly positive, though not without reservations. The device was quickly integrated into our daily routine. The children regularly use the sparkling water maker, while the adults drink chilled water more often. For individual hot drinks, the hot water function also saves waiting time.

An additional practical advantage is offered by the removable 1.5-liter purified water tank. The already filtered water is collected in it and can then be poured directly into the tank of a fully automatic coffee machine, for example. This makes the C300 suitable not only for direct dispensing into a drinking glass.

Strengths and weaknesses summarized

  • Flexible use without a fixed fresh water or wastewater connection

  • Very convincing water taste after the prescribed flushing cycles

  • Water filter, cooling, hot water dispensing, and sparkling water maker in one system

  • Easy-to-read and clearly structured sensor display

  • Illuminated dispensing area and overall comfortable handling

  • Removable 1.5-liter purified water tank for other kitchen appliances

  • Requires a relatively large amount of space and additional ventilation clearance

  • Included sparkling water bottle offers only 400 ml of volume

  • No selectable cooling temperature between 7 °C and room temperature

  • Compressor clearly audible in quiet or open rooms

  • Suitable CO₂ cylinder must be purchased separately

  • Regular expenses for replacing the filter cartridge

What disadvantages should buyers keep in mind?

Despite its versatile equipment, the Hydrofast C300 has a few weak points. The included PET bottle for sparkling water feels rather basic considering the price of the device. With a capacity of 400 ml, it is also relatively small and must not be cleaned in the dishwasher. In my view, a larger bottle or a compatible glass version would have been a better fit for the device’s overall ambitions.

There are also the long-term operating costs. The HF04 combination filter costs around 100 euros. Depending on water consumption and duration of use, it is supposed to be replaced roughly every six to twelve months. Before buying, regular filter replacement should therefore be factored in alongside the device price.

Final verdict on the Hydrofast C300

After my test, the Hydrofast C300 is far more versatile than an ordinary countertop filter system. In a single device, it combines reverse osmosis filtration, UV sterilization, water cooling, hot water dispensing, and the addition of carbonation. Since no fixed water connection is required, the system also remains comparatively flexible. I rate the simple setup, the clear water taste, the intuitive user interface, and the high practical everyday value particularly positively.

There is room for improvement mainly in the small PET sparkling water bottle, the missing second cold water temperature, and the generous device dimensions. The noise of the compressor and the recurring costs for new filters also should not be ignored in the purchase decision. Depending on the retailer, the Hydrofast C300 usually costs around 599 to 650 euros. That means it is not one of the cheap impulse purchases. In view of the many combined functions, however, the pricing is fundamentally understandable for such a 4-in-1 or 5-in-1 system.

Overall, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for me. Households that use filtered drinking water daily, like well-chilled water, occasionally need instantly available hot water, and also want to make their own sparkling water get a versatile device with a noticeable gain in convenience. On the other hand, if you only rarely want to filter some tap water and can do without the other functions, a simpler filter system is probably the better financial choice.

Purchase recommendation: The Hydrofast C300 is particularly interesting for households for which convenient operation, good water quality, and a flexibly placeable complete system are important. In addition to a purchase price of roughly 599 to 650 euros, the later costs for replacement filters should also be taken into account.
